The Coleman/Cherry/Smith Scholarship Fund

The Cherry-Smith Scholarship Fund, established in 1979 in memory of Brothers Raymond Cherry and Chester Smith. The J.P. Coleman Scholarship Fund was established in 1982 in memory of Rev. Dr. James Patrick Coleman. The two scholarships were consolidated in 1993 to create the Coleman/Cherry/Smith Scholarship Fund as part of the Mount Olive Baptist Church Scholarship Program.
The yearly scholarship rewards spiritual maturity, church involvement, and academic excellence and provides monetary assistance to students for four years of college. It is designed to inspire Mount Olive students chance to succeed in school while helping to relieve some of the financial burdens of post-secondary education.

"For over 119 years, Mount Olive Baptist Church has attempted to be at the cross roads of life in Bergen County. In 1889, we were originally founded as an African American congregation. Today, although we are still largely African American, we now see ourselves as a congregation open to all people."
